Secretariat meeting
This week in a meeting hosted by Norway in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, the Nordic Engineer Officers’ Federation discussed several topics, most importantly The Polar Code.
The Polar Code is intended to cover the full range of shipping-related matters relevant to navigation in waters surrounding the two poles – ship design, construction, and equipment; operational and training concerns; search and rescue; and, equally important, the protection of the unique environment and eco-systems of the polar regions.
The attendees also discussed the bylaws, goals and membership agreement of the federation. They also talked about international cooperation and how to further develop and strengthen their partnerships with other countries. Additionally, they discussed the rapport that had been established between the members and how they could improve it in the future.
Overall, the meeting was productive and provided a platform for members to exchange ideas, establish new partnerships, and strengthen existing ones.
